June Book Haul

IMG_2004.JPG

This month is a slow-reading month for me, I only read and finished Heir of Fire and Queen of Shadows by Sarah J Maas. I started a couple of books after that but I never got around to finishing them. I’m just not in a reading mood this month, I’m not sure why. This means I didn’t read any of the books on my June TBR. Sigh. I’m hoping July will be better.

About halfway through June, I decided to put myself under a book-buying ban. I really need to save money, and I already have a lot of books on my shelves that I haven’t read so I want to cut back on my book-shopping and read those I already have. Although, I allow myself to buy books from op shops, or through some facebook book buy and sell pages.

The books on the left are the ones I got from an Op Shop, while the books on the right are from Book Depository or Dymocks.

Hardcover:

  • Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre by The Bronte Sisters in one book – I got this from an Op Shop for only $3. I love it because the edges are gold, and the cover is that soft leather things.
  • Heir of Fire by Sarah J Maas – I got this from Dymocks. I have had the first, second, and fourth book in the series for months but for some reason Dymocks had a hard time getting this one in so I waited a couple of months for this one. I breezed through it very quickly, that’s also the case with Queen of Shadows. Sarah J Maas is one of my top 5 favourite authors.
  • A Court of Thorns and Roses + A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J Maas – I got these from Book Depository. This is my second favourite series ever, next to Harry Potter of course. The first book I finished in 3 hours, the second I finished in 5 hours. It’s such an amazing series.
  • The Wrath and The Dawn by Renee Ahdieh – I’ve heard plenty of good things about this and the sequel so I decided to get it and see if I’ll like it. I haven’t read it yet but I will as soon as I feel like it. I got this from Book Depository.
  • The Raven King by Maggie Stiefvater – This completes The Raven Cycle series, this is the fourth and final book. I’ve had the first three books since February but I decided to wait for The Raven King before I started the series. I’m reading The Raven Boys now.

Paperback:

  • The Girl You Left Behind by Jojo Moyes – I read Moyes’ Me Before You and After You, and I liked it so I thought I’d give this one a try.
  • The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho – In the months I spent working at Dymocks, The Alchemist is one of our best sellers. I probably sold at least one every day so I bought one for myself.
  • Heaven Is For Real by Todd Burpo – I read this book two years ago in iBooks and I enjoyed it. I’m not sure why I never bought it in hardcopy but yay I have it now.
  • Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden – I saw the movie a few years back, so I thought I’d read the book.
  • Schindler’s List by Thomas Keneally – All of the stories I’ve read or movies I’ve seen about The Holocaust leaves a mark on me. I saw the movie a couple of months ago, I thought I’d read the book too.

That’s it! I’m not sure if I should bother writing a July TBR post. I’d just be disappointed if I don’t read anything from it this month, as is the case with last month’s TBR.

I think I’ll be blogging about the season finale of Game of Thrones season six soon. I’m full of feelings because of it.

May Book Haul

IMG_1818

I got quite a few books this month, a mixture of new and secondhand books, and ebooks.I also ordered two books just last week that hasn’t arrived yet so I’ll be adding them to my June Book Haul instead. Out of the 17 books I got this month (1 ebook, not pictured), I read 4 books and I’m in the middle of the 5th one. It’s a slow month for me, reading-wise, because I read A Court of Thorns and Roses and A Court of Mist and Fury and they were so good, they left me in a book hangover. No regrets though, because it’s now one of my top 5 favourite series. Okay so the books I bought in May are:

Hardcover:

  • The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman – I got this book second hand off a facebook buy and sell page. Neil Gaiman’s writing is beautiful, and I know when I saw this I had to get it.

Paperback:

  • The Inheritance Cycle series: Eragon, Eldest, Brisingr and Inheritance by Christopher Paolini – I have heard of this series before from a couple of people but it’s not massively talked about, it hasn’t been spoiled for me which is a rare thing this days so I am looking forward to reading this. All I know is that it involves dragons. I am 90% sure I will like this series since I have heard good things about it. I got this off  facebook buy and sell page, same seller as The Graveyard Book. It’s in new condition and it’s signed!
  • Uprooted by Naomi Novik – This is one of the very few high fantasy standalone I have read and I loved this one! It’s magical and just very alluring.
  • The Crown by Kiera Cass – This is the last book in The Selection Series and thank heavens for that. I didn’t enjoy this book as much as I enjoyed the original series, my review can be found here.
  • You by Caroline Kepnes – I’m getting into psychological thrillers lately, and I heard this was good so I picked it up. I’d probably read it in June.
  • The Trials of Apollo: The Hidden Oracle by Rick Riordan – This is the first book in Uncle Rick’s new series also set in the Percy Jackson World. Some of the old characters have made an appearance which made me feel fuzzy and warm inside.
  • A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness – I have heard soooo many good things about this book since last year and I finally picked it up in May and read it straightaway and I was blown away. I absolutely loved this book, and I can’t wait for the movie adaptation – I just hope it gives the book justice.
  • Keeping Faith, Mercy, My Sister’s Keeper, Second Glance and House Rules by Jodi Picoult – I got these for free from a Facebook book buy and sell page, she was just going to chuck it in the bin so she just gave it away instead. I’ve never actually read anything of Picoult’s but I have seen My Sister’s Keeper and I loved it so we’ll see.

Ebook:

  • A Court of Thorns and Roses + A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J Maas – I read both of these in 8 hours combined (ACOTAR took me 3 hours, while ACOMAF took me 5). I read one book in one sitting, the other in one sitting too – they’re that good! I already love The Throne of Glass series by Sarah J Maas and I didn’t think it was possible to love her work even more but I did – I love ACOTAR and ACOMAF more than I love TOG series. I can’t wait for the third one to come out next year, it’s going to be even more epic!

Thanks for reading! I’m posting my May Wrap Up and June TBR soon-ish.
